The Worriers

A “Sam Matoe Productions” FILM
WRITTEN BY Sam Matoe and Marty Hunt

One hundred territorial gangs plague the Auckland landscape. But soon one of these gangs, a ragtag bunch of six multicultural misfits known as The Worriers are forced to band together like brothers following a redundancy without pay from their Council roading project during a recession (hence their name, The Worriers). They would find themselves wanted and on the run fighting for their lives after a bounty is placed on their heads that no man could turn down. This Helensville gang are on their way to a meeting in South Auckland along with every known gang, thug and criminal in the city. Such gangs as The Tongan Overstayers, M.M.P. (More Maori Power), Manu Samoan’s, Raj-Gs, and the Fou Fighters (from Howick) are called together by Hon. Ryan Hamaki, leader of the biggest gang in the city, The Destinites! Hamaki desires to run for mayor of the Super City, and to achieve his desire for power he promises that by uniting together they could all rule the city and he asks for their votes and support to help in his bid for Mayoralty. A mass collection is taken up to help fund this campaign. This collection however is stolen and The Worriers are falsely accused. The worriers escape and find themselves on the run with every gang, thief, and criminal seeing dollar signs over their heads following Hamaki’s promise of a reward for their backsides. Their time on the run is filled with more worries through a comedy of errors and many obstacles along the way. They are forced to rely on each other more than ever – will their brotherhood withstand the pressure? Will their innocence be proven?
