UPTOWN BARBERZ

A “None as yet..” FILM
WRITTEN BY Tim Vee

Uptown Barberz, is a story of a young man Tim, born, raised in West Auckland who is moved to Dunedin at age 16 to hopefully break him form a life of crime and drugs.

Rather than solve his problems, it perpetuates them, making him an even more skilled criminal as Dunedin at that time is a more soft touch compared to Auckland.

Like all crooks he becomes unstuck and finds himself in jail on and off from 18 -20 years old.

At 21, and now father to a baby girl Luciana, he leaves Dunedin for Auckland,

While he always maintains contact and visits his life is still unmanageable, and out of control and he is again walking the wrong path.

He now, from Auckland runs a group of skilled burglars and drug pushers at times controlling the whole network, the growers, dealers and money made from his criminal endeavors.

His morality and sense of doing right by people eats at him causing him to fall out with members of his crew after insisting they only take cash and goods on burglaries, not family heirlooms and other goods his victims cant replace

This leads to extreme violence and the almost death of one of his former team members.

Trying to pull himself out of his current life, He sets up a unsuccessful rap label, which ends as one of his key talents is locked up on burglary and gun charges, falling into despair and the centre of police operations he tries again to pave a new life.

As progress it appears is getting made another bombshell is dropped, his Mum who he is once close to, but now estranged from, contacts and advises him that she has terminal cancer and has just 6 weeks to live.

He rushes to her side holding her hand as she dies, just the two of them promising her that he will never again walk the wrong road he once ran.

Rather than wallow in self pity and despair, and aware that this time, he is definitely out of options, he trains as a Barber , taken under the wing of some NewSkool West Auckland local barbers and returns to Dunedin, clean, strait and almost broke, to reunite with his daughter now aged 8 years.

After unsuccessfully searching for work, and trying his best to fulfill a promise to Luciana to stay in her life this time and the promise made to his Mum, he contacts a local businessman and landlord who gives him one chance, and allows him to setup his own barbershop in the student area.

With one chair and one mirror, he opens Uptown Barberz, at first with no customers. He manages to convince a student walking past to get a haircut, and when he goes to pay , instead asks him to tell 10 of his friends, this process is repeated and within 4 weeks his shop is busy beyond belief,.

The team building process then begins.

Thru the success of Uptown, building a team, great friendships are created and others lost, and a man, realizes the power he has, to help shape a community, bring people together and follow his calling as a decent Father, law abiding, honest member of a community.

Realizing his potential his next goal is born, to create a Reality T.V Program, to give his community hope, create jobs, keep his team together and allow them to also gain their full potential.

Experience the highs, and lows as a young man, turns his life around, save a daughter from a life without a father, and give others belief that one can achieve even though the odds are stacked firmly against them.

What is perhaps different about this story is a true story, based on my life to this point.

I am Tim, Father, Barber, honest member of a community, Reality Program creator.

Warning, this movie, contains violence, drug use, criminal offending, belief, the power to change and laughter.
