When a think-tank of ultra rightwing, but incompetent business leaders decide that New Zealand has lost its way politically, they devise a plan to get the country back on track at the next election – with or without popular support.
Their answer is media magnate, Donna Lee: beautiful, wealthy – and slightly to the right of Mussolini – she’s the perfect candidate to usher in a new era of ultra low taxes, free trade, and the sale of every state asset not tied down!
With a gung-ho marketing team of slick US advisors, and the secret funding of a disturbingly neat team of religious zealots, they launch a blundering blitzkrieg of dirty tricks and Tui-billboard inspired advertising on the country.
As they begin their lurching rise up the polls, they implement the second part of their plan; using their considerable financial clout they kick off a “mini” recession – which they believe will prove how desperately the country needs a new government.
Unfortunately, when the plan goes better than they expected, and the global economy goes into free-fall, New Zealand, and Prime Ministerial aspirant, Donna Lee, find themselves squarely in the world’s spotlight.
The only problem is, that Donna may not be quite as smart as she looks…
