Ante-Natal

A “Lyall Bay Productions” FILM
WRITTEN BY Shani Naylor

Five couples, all expecting their first baby, come together for an ante-natal class in this humorous mockumentary.
Karen, the instructor, is a touchy-feely type who believes childbirth should be a totally natural process.
Then there’s Lindy, who’s read every baby book ever published and is more than ready to share her knowledge; Rose, who’s terrified of pain and desperate to find out about drugs; Shelley, who’s convinced she’s carrying a genius; Marie, who has only just discovered she is pregnant at seven months; and Kristy, who’s been having an affair with a married man.
And there are the blokes: Nigel, who takes far too much interest in watching the breastfeeding DVD; Caleb, who’s there under sufferance and would rather be fixing his motorbike; Trevor, the ever attentive partner who wants to share his wife’s experience; Paul, who’s keeping a big secret; and Dom, who breeds dogs and can’t see what all the fuss is about.
Over an amazing and hilarious five weeks the couples bond and learn everything they need to know about having a baby, plus lots they didn’t need to know. Their last class is thrown into chaos when one of the women goes into early labour and they have to call on their skills and resourcefulness to assist.
In the best traditions of The Office and Morris: A Life with Bells On, Ante-Natal explores a part of life familiar to many of us yet rich with comic undertones.
