Adam Columbine, son of the original first officer, is now commander of the generation ship where he grew up. The voyage is almost over, but relationships between the crew are stretched to breaking point after 30 years in space.

Arriving on the new world, the settlers must rely on each other to cope with the hazards of life in their new home.

When they discover an intelligent but primitive native species, there are mixed reactions on both sides. Adam tries to establish peaceful co-existence and hold his colony together. Max Thorn, son of the mission’s original commander, leads a faction with other ideas.

As tensions rise toward violent confrontation, both within and between the two camps, matters are complicated by the arrival of two more ships from Earth. One will reawaken the settlers’ past. The other will present them with a very different future.

Can the factions overcome their differences to establish a lasting community, or are some differences too great to be overcome?
