I KNOW!

A “2e Media Charitable Trust” FILM
WRITTEN BY Angela Elliott. Juliett Cottrell

Eight year old Jessie has been behaving differently lately. A bright girl, she has become insufferable, always interrupting with her know-it-all remarks. She is becoming unpopular with her teachers and her friends for being a know-it-all and playing mean tricks and is now prone to sudden angry outbursts. But it’s not her fault.
Like all children, Jessie was born with a fairy guide on her shoulder that only she can see. Fairy guides are kept alive by the essence of childhood that connects them to their charges. It is their job to offer advice, help them figure out the answers to difficult questions and warn them when danger is near, until the child grows up enough to trust their own instincts. But a mischievous Imp has kidnapped Jessie’s fairy guide and hidden her somewhere in the house. Imps are unable to tap into the essence of childhood themselves, but if they can capture a fairy guide they can take on their form and trick their child into giving them their essence instead. This Imposter has been telling Jessie what to say, enticing her to play practical jokes, whispering the answers to questions that teachers ask and making up lies about her friends. The Fairy Council is aware something isn’t right. Their routine ‘flies eyes’ surveillance has revealed Jessie’s odd behaviour and when her fairy guide fails to post her monthly reports, they suspect an Imposter. They send Wilson, their best Impspector, to investigate. Wilson corners the Imp and attempts to cajole him into revealing where he has hidden Jessie’s fairy. A struggle ensues and in a freak accident both of them are revealed to Jessie.
The Imposter, no longer in disguise, loses his power over Jessie. Jessie helps Wilson to capture the Imp and together they search the house for her fairy guide.
The fairy guide has been disconnected from Jessie for almost three months now without the childhood essence to sustain her. If Jessie and Wilson don’t find her soon, she may die. With nobody telling her what to do anymore – not even a meddlesome imp - Jessie must learn to rely on her own intuition to work out the answers to the cryptic clues and find her fairy. When they do, the fairy guide is so weak she is unable to return to work and Jessie must say goodbye to her and face up to going through life without her guidance. She must also right the wrongs of the last few months. She appeals to the fairy council for help and in an unprecedented move, Wilson is allowed to stay on as Jessie’s guide.
Jessie has learned a lot during their quest together and Wilson watches on as she learns to trust her friends again, and lets others have a go even when she knows the answer. In the end it is Jessie’s decision to let Wilson go as she comes to the realisation that she is old enough to think for herself now. Most of all she has learned that although it’s good to be smart, nobody likes a know-it-all!
