Every 100 years, the 'Keepers of the Estuary' - (Mud risers - half-amphibian half-man species) have to make a sacrificial offering of one female + male from a particular dynasty (The Bays) to keep their connection and power to this world ,otherwise their dwindling species will perish forever.

Flying in from different parts of the world for their grandfather's funeral, two distant cousins, Lucius & Rima Bay, learn that the old family home (situated right next to the Te Atatu Estuary) has been bequeathed to them, so they decide to shift in for awhile.

Tensions arise as Rima struggles to live with her enigmatic, preoccupied cousin, & once she disappears, Lucius is thrown into a series of mysterious & mind-thrilling events, and one starts to wonder.... who is hunting who?
