Rangi and Juliet

A “Wangawood” FILM
WRITTEN BY Tony Williams

For over a 100 years shearing gangs have been stencilling their names on the woolshed at Poporangi station. This time it will be stencilled in blood. And love. Rangi is a new shearer. Juliet is the daughter of the cocky (farmer) whose world will unravel as his wife goes off the rails and a convicted murderer returns to the gang. There is also tension because other members of the gang are “pressing bellies” where they shouldn’t be. The unfolding tragedy and love story are narrated by the half mad roustabout called Fool who speaks only in iambic pentameter. This is an evocation of Kiwi shearing sheds, but told in a fantastical style and it will be filmed in the real shearing shed pictured in the poster. It will be sexy, dramatic and exciting with a thunderous beat than ends in a Shakespearean climax – everything resolving into chaos. And out of all this, will the fragile buds of Rangi and Juliet’s love survive?
