Maori mythology tells of the gods creating the upper and lower worlds, beasts of light and darkness that blaze across the sky and walk the Earth.

Every 4,000 years, the four planets eclipse and invoke an ancient evil.
Unleashed from the dark a demon crosses from the old world into the new, wrecking destruction and instigating the last great Maori war.

In retaliation the Blood Beasts, called the Turakai rise up to take their human form to fight for the forest god ,Tane.

Tuku, the last of the Turakai is summoned by Tane to protect a young Moa Hunter and the daughter of the chief of the Ngapuhi who is the key to the ancient secret that will help them win the war.
