ONE NIGHT IN AUGUST

BASED ON TRUE EVENTS.

100 years ago a horrific event shocked our nation - "The Kaimata Tragedy".

What began as an amicable "farm swap" between two prominent Taranaki famers, ended in a night of terror and tragedy for young Dorothy Julian and her family.

A “Flat Tack Films” FILM
WRITTEN BY Shalesh Vasan, Stuart McDonald & Adrian Smith

Warea, Taranaki. August 12, 1913.

It was an exciting day for the Julian Family, especially young Dorothy "Dolly" Julian as she and her family set off for their new farm in Kaimata with all of their possessions in tow.
Dorothy's father, Edward "Ted" Julian had agreed to an offer to swap farms from respected Taranaki dairy farmer Frederick Virgin however, upon arrival at Mr Virgin’s Kaimata homestead on the evening of August 13, Dorothy notices a sudden change in Mr. Virgin's demeanour. Visibly troubled, Mr Virgin offers her father £500 to revoke their deal but Mr Julian promptly declines as everything is already set in place for their exchange.

What follows is one night in August that Dorothy and her family will never forget.

Based on true events.
