Two couples are stranded on an island, encountering horrible oil like giant lampreys and must discover that the trait is heading towards the entire country.

A few months after the ship Rena hit the Astrolabe reef and caused an environmental disaster, two couples; Jody, Brandon, Kyla and Scott are on a Sunday fun and suntan-fishing trip when an unexplainable wave wracks the boat and the two couples have to swim to a nearby island. Two of them want to have seen a large shadow in the wave and they discuss what it could have; been shark, orca etc. They become slightly distressed and inpatient when it turns out that their cellphones are either soaked or out of reception.

It gets dark and they decide to rest, and wait till the next morning, hoping that they will be found shortly. As darkness rises and sleep sets in, they wake from strange sounds and birds are being scared off. The next morning Jody screams because Brandon is missing and there are oil like slimy fluids covering the beach. The three suspects that something could be terrible wrong. A discussion of wondering and desperation brakes out. They decide to walk to the middle of the island as that could be more safe and a higher spot provide them with an better view, and with the change to be seen better by a eventual rescue teams.

When they arrive on the highest point and have a good overview over the water on the other side of the island, and a view to the mainland, they are in shock of what they are about to witness. Boats on the water and parts of the mainland are distressed or swallowed by oily slimy giant creatures that look like giant oily lampreys…
